  1. This utility will allow you to scan through an .EXE or .DLL file and view
  2. all icons present.  Icons are not divided into icon groups, so you might
  3. see multiple version of the same icon (these will be icons used for different
  4. resolution devices).  By using the View Next button, the next icon will be
  5. displayed and by using the View Prev button the previously view icon can
  6. be brought back and displayed.  If the Save button is pressed, a filename
  7. may be entered and the currently visible icon will be saved into a file with
  8. the .ICO format.  If a message is displayed that says "Unable to display this
  9. icon", it means that the icon is either in CGA format (32x16 pixels) or in
  10. hi-res format (64x64 pixels).  A future enhancement should allow viewing of
  11. these icons as well.  Despite the fact that these icons can not be viewed,
  12. Icon Extract can successfully save them to a file and the icons can be
  13. viewed and/or edited by using the SDKPaint program.

  15. This program was created as a quick way to view and maintain icons in some of
  16. icon libraries (DLL's) available since the available tools (e.g. The Whitewater
  17. and Edensoft Resource Toolkits) require somewhat more time to perform minor
  18. functions such as this.  This should offer an easy way to quickly extract only
  19. the icons that one wants and/or needs.

  29. NOTE:    Future enhancements currently intended are the ability to replace an
  30.     icon in the EXE with one read from any .ICO file, the ability to save
  31.     icons in groups, and possibly the ability to edit an icon that is
  32.     currently being viewed.
